Good Morning Bighorns Families,
We’ve reached the final week of our summer skills program, and tonight is our last full session focused on development. Wednesday’s skate will lean a little more into fun and competitive games, so we’re looking to close out the training portion strong.
Here’s what’s on deck for the 14U/High School group:
Power Skating: Focused reps and full-ice stride work to kick things off
Finnish 5 Puck Progression: Handling under pressure, body control, and puck movement
Border Road + Bonus 1v1s: Quick feet, retrieval reads, and decision-making under pressure
Poker 2v2 Game: Full-ice game that rewards communication and smart two-way play
It’s been a great run so far. Let’s keep the intensity up as we finish out the week.

Good Morning Bighorns Families,
As mentioned on Monday, we’re using this final stretch of summer to increase the amount of physical contact in our drills. The players have built a strong foundation, and now we’re challenging them to apply those skills under pressure and in contact scenarios.
Tonight’s session keeps things competitive and fun while introducing controlled battle elements in tight spaces.
Here’s what we’ve got on tap:
2v2 Down Low, a tight-space battle emphasizing puck protection and physical play along the boards
Saucer Pass to Wall Escape 1v1, combining skill with pressure as players retrieve pucks and escape contact
Game Pace Mix-Up, our full-ice game with rotating formats (5v5, 5v4, 4v4, 3v3) to keep everyone engaged and reacting to new challenges
Great energy from this group so far, let’s finish strong.

Good Morning Bighorns Families,
We’re into Week 4, and our 14U and High School skaters continue to push the pace. We’ll begin tonight with our usual power skating segment, followed by a full rotation through stations—picking up where we left off last week.
Some of our 14U players didn’t get to complete the shooting station, and some high schoolers missed the six-cone puck handling work, so we’ll knock those out early. From there, we’ll shift into two new drills:
NEHDA Defenseman Carousel, focused on retrievals and decision-making during breakouts
Shot Into Gap-Up 1 v 1, a contact-ready drill that combines puck pursuit, angling, and defensive positioning
We’re down to just a couple more sessions together, so we’re making every minute count. Let’s keep the energy up and finish strong.

Welcome to Week 3 of HAYHA Summer Skills – 14U and High School Group
It’s Wednesday, which means we’ll wrap up the skate with a little more fun and competition. In addition to 3-on-3 cross-ice play, we’re adding a skating competition to close the night.
Before that, we’ll hit two skill stations focused on edge control, lateral movement, and shooting through traffic, followed by a quick reset into game mode. Thanks again to this group for continuing to bring great energy and staying dialed in through each segment.
See you tonight.

Welcome to Week 3 of HAYHA Summer Skills – 14U and High School
We’re still in our first half of our summer program, and I’m proud of how this group has handled each challenge so far. Monday’s skate continues our focus on puck control under pressure, smart body positioning, and shooting with purpose.
We’ll be opening with power skating, then building off last week’s puck protection work with a cutback passing progression and small-space decision-making drills. I'm still working on adding more coaching support to give you all more individual feedback, but you’ve done a great job adjusting to the specialized reps we’ve built into each session. We’ve still got three weeks to keep progressing.
See you on the ice,

Week 2 – Skate 4 Welcome, 14U & High School
Our second Wednesday builds on last week’s pace and contact work while adding new compete drills.
Power-skating block, twenty-two minutes, full ice focuses on stride power, rapid transitions and acceleration out of turns
Corner battle drill, twelve minutes, near end NHL vs AHL style, win the puck, cut off hands, drive the net
Chute angling one-on-one, twelve minutes, far end read the approach, close the gap, finish with controlled body contact
Griffs two-on-two game, fourteen minutes, full ice quick support, smart switches, pressure the puck carrier and counterattack
Bring high energy, keep heads up, communicate loudly, compete hard and clean. Looking forward to another strong session.

Welcome to Week 2 – HAYHA Summer Skills (14U / High School)
Last week we hit the ice with a strong focus on stride form and edge control during our power skating block, then followed that up with foundational puck handling and passing reps. It was a great starting point, and the high school group showed strong energy and from the start.
Tonight, we shift the emphasis toward puck protection and shooting under pressure. We’ll continue to build skating confidence with backward speed and quick transitions, and then roll into competitive battle drills and scoring reps that demand quick thinking and execution. Keep your head up, support your teammates, and push the pace each rep.
Looking forward to another sharp night of work. See you out there.

14U/HS – Wednesday Night Message
Good evening Bighorns,
Great work from the 14U and High School group on Wednesday night. Even with it being the first skate of the summer for many, the pace was excellent and the group settled into drills quickly. Let's be ready to introduce a little speed into our drills Wednesday.
HAYHA sent out a 25–26 season survey to gather input from families on programming and scheduling. Please take a moment to complete it if you haven't already:

Welcome to Week 1 of HAYHA Summer Skills – 14U/High School Group
We’ll hit the ice Monday with a high-tempo session focused mostly on skating form, edge control, and small-area puck movement. These early reps are designed to lock in technical details before we layer on speed and intensity in future sessions. Whether you're shaking off summer rust or jumping in to sharpen your game, the foundation starts now. Let’s get after it.
