Welcome to Session 2 for our 14U and High School group. If you are new, here is the rhythm you can expect; Mondays are skate and skill heavy to build core habits, Wednesdays include more game play and competition so players can apply those skills under pressure. If you skated with us in Session 1, the progression will feel familiar; we will keep the same skill arc, swap in a few fresh reps, and push pace and decision making a little more each week.
Tonight we open with a full-group power skating block to reset posture, edges, and stride quality. Our skill theme for Day 1 is puck handling and possession at speed, with clean first touches and confident protection.
On the ice tonight:
Figure 8 Puck Protection Drill, tighten turns, shield the puck, win small battles
6 Cone Series, quick feet, edge control, fast transitions with eyes up
Glide Turn with Figure-Eight Catch, one-foot edge work, and give-and-go, receive clean, move it quickly, support the puck
Coaching points we will echo all hour: athletic stance and strong knee bend, sticks out front and ready, first touch away from pressure, scan early and often, communicate and support the next play.
I will keep posting practice plans the morning of each skate so everyone knows the focus for the day. Questions about the program or your player’s development are always welcome; feel free to catch me at the rink or send an email.
See you tonight, let’s set the tone for a great second session.
