HAYHA Mission

The Helena Area Youth Hockey Association (HAYHA) is committed to providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and love for the game of hockey in a fun and safe environment. HAYHA is committed to affirming the importance of hockey as a team sport, and instilling a life-long appreciation for the game and the values of commitment, self-discipline, teamwork, respect and sportsmanship it embodies.

HAYHA Core Values

Sportsmanship

  • Foremost of all values is to learn a sense of fair play. Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat. We will foster friendship with teammates and opponents alike.

Integrity

  • We seek to foster honesty and fair play beyond mere strict interpretation of the rules and regulations of the game.

Enjoyment

  • It is important for the hockey experience to be fun, satisfying and rewarding for all participants.

Respect for the individual

  • Treat all others as you expect to be treated.

Pursuit of excellence at the individual, team and organizational levels

  • Each member of the organization, whether player, volunteer or staff, should seek to perform each aspect of the game to the highest level of his or her ability.

Loyalty

  • We aspire to teach loyalty to the ideals and fellow members of the sport of hockey.

Out of Area Players

HAYHA Bighorns travel programs are designed for Helena area players.

The term “Helena area” is essentially all 596xx zip codes and is roughly geographically circumscribed by the towns of Craig to the North, Basin and Boulder Valley to the South, Townsend to the East, and Garrison to the West.

MAHA released an Out of Area Player Policy in August of 2025 for all associations.

If an Out of Area Player would like to participate in a HAYHA program, the Out of Area Player will need to:

  1. Complete the MAHA Player Exemption Form (not all input values apply)
  2. Have the Home Association President sign the MAHA Player Exemption Form
  3. Have the Home Association include an letter indicating the player is in good financial and disciplinary standings with the Home Association and MAHA
  4. Send the MAHA Player Exemption Form and letter to the HAYHA Age Division Representative

If HAYHA decides to accept the Out of Area Player, the HAYHA President will sign the MAHA Exemption Form and the HAYHA MAHA Representative will submit the exception request to MAHA.

The Out of Area Player may start participating in HAYHA activities once HAYHA submits the request to MAHA.
