hayha mission & core values
HAYHA Mission
The Helena Area Youth Hockey Association (HAYHA) is committed to providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and love for the game of hockey in a fun and safe environment. HAYHA is committed to affirming the importance of hockey as a team sport, and instilling a life-long appreciation for the game and the values of commitment, self-discipline, teamwork, respect and sportsmanship it embodies.

HAYHA Core Values
Sportsmanship
- Foremost of all values is to learn a sense of fair play. Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat. We will foster friendship with teammates and opponents alike.
Integrity
- We seek to foster honesty and fair play beyond mere strict interpretation of the rules and regulations of the game.
Enjoyment
- It is important for the hockey experience to be fun, satisfying and rewarding for all participants.
Respect for the individual
- Treat all others as you expect to be treated.
Pursuit of excellence at the individual, team and organizational levels
- Each member of the organization, whether player, volunteer or staff, should seek to perform each aspect of the game to the highest level of his or her ability.
Loyalty
- We aspire to teach loyalty to the ideals and fellow members of the sport of hockey.
Teamwork

Out of Area Players
HAYHA Bighorns travel programs are designed for Helena area players.
The term “Helena area” is essentially all 596xx zip codes and is roughly geographically circumscribed by the towns of Craig to the North, Basin and Boulder Valley to the South, Townsend to the East, and Garrison to the West.
A player who participated on a HAYHA Bighorns travel team in the previous season is not considered an Out-of-Area Player.
Players from outside the Helena area are eligible to try out for HAYHA travel teams only with the approval of the HAYHA Board of Directors. Out-of-Area players who wish to try out for a Helena Bighorns team must notify the Board in writing prior to the close of registration (email: board@hayha.org).
Out-of-Area players wishing to try out will present to the Board a letter from their Home Association regarding their financial and disciplinary standing with their home association, their home address, and a statement on their commitment to attend the same amount of practices and team functions as an average Helena area player.
